Waxhaw MOPS

Cookie Exchange

Christmas Party

It's the time of the year
when best cookies are made
What fun to make extra in order to trade
Please come on Monday, December 13th
bring cookies, your best
Exchange yours for others and so will each guest
Bring as many to trade as you want to take home
And some for the table for we're sure
not to roam
Until we've had coffee, tea and a chat
and welcomed the season
There's reason for that
Our baking is done, we'll relax,
we are free
So sing Merry Christmas from you
and from me.

Suncreen Information

Submitted by Andrea Anderson

Here's some good sunscreen info which I thought might be good for the blog, since it's getting to be summer now!

Lots of people don't know that some sunscreens are actually really bad (containing toxics or hormone disrupters, lovely). Also, some of ones that say "broad spectrum" are not really. The FDA currently does not regulate sunscreens, and the companies don't have to prove that they work. This site lists good and bad ones and has a search function to check out the one you use.

Here is a GREAT last minute thing to do Saturday, April 10th

"Bloom Where You're Planted"

for

Ladies & Girls

(That includes STUDENTS... you know, teenagers & college!)

Saturday, April 10, 2010

2 - 4 p.m.

Speaker: Melinda Whited (MOPS mom)

Music by Kent & Jean Jewel (yea!)

craft following

Covenant Baptist Church

Lancaster, SC

Fellowship Hall

FREE!!

I look forward to sharing what the Lord has placed on my heart with the ladies of ALL ages... girls of all ages (well, first or second grade is probably the youngest girl that I would bring). I'm bringing my Olivia (third grade), but my Emma (who just turned 5) will be staying at home. I won't be sharing from my life of perfect blooming (ha ha); instead, I will be sharing what the Holy Spirit has been challenging me with in the present, and how the Lord has given those around me as examples of Blooming! It WILL be relevant to all ages & stages there... from the girls, to young ladies, students, college, career, single, married, moms, grandmothers, empty nesters, everyone...

I think there might be childcare available, but I'm checking on that! When I know for sure, I'll post the info here!

I'd REALLY appreciate your prayers for this day. Please pray for the Lord to be Glorified in all I say and do. Please pray for me to be sensitive to His leading. Please pray for those attending to hear whatever the Lord wants them to hear. Please pray for all those involved to be healthy that weekend (my family, the Jewels, the women's ministry team).

Thank you!!

I look forward to seeing you on the 10th!!

Blessings,

Melinda =0)

MOPS Meeting 3/26 Highlights!

Craft Day: Magazine/Paper Necklaces

What a fun meeting today. Thanks Lynn for putting together the magazine necklace craft. It was surprisingly easy and fun. I just had to capture these beautiful moms - they even matched today!

Everyone is asking for the link to the "Potty Talk" clip that was shown today. A special thanks to Rachel Sawhook for sending it to me - I was looking for something funny to share at today's meeting and it fit in perfectly. Here is it http://www.ignitermedia.com/products/sea/singles/1083/Potty-Talk If you have a funny story to share, save it for our next meeting, BUT bring a $dollar$ (or more). We are adding up our Happy/Sad dollars for a special teen mom who needs our help.

RESURRECTION ROLLS

Submitted by Rebecca Brooks

Yummy & teachable lesson - who could ask for more!

Thought some of you might like to do this with your kids for Easter...

INGREDIENTS: 1 pkg. crescent rolls, large marshmallows, melted butter, cinnamon sugar.

Preheat oven to 350 degree F.

Give each child a crescent roll triangle to represent the cloth Jesus was wrapped in.

Give each child 1 marshmallow to represent Jesus (our sweet Savior). Have child dip marshmallow into melted butter (represents embalming oils).

Next roll the marshmallow in cinnamon sugar (represents spices used to anoint the body).

Wrap the coated marshmallow tightly in the crescent roll and seal the edges (represents wrapping of Jesus' body after death).

Place in the oven for 10-12 minutes (oven represents the tomb). Allow to cool.

Child will find roll is puffed up, but empty. He is RISEN!!

MOPS Meeting 3/12 Highlights!

We had a great MOPS meeting Friday and wanted to share some of the highlights from that day. For those of you that didn't make it – you were definitely missed! Hopefully, now that we can see, feel and smell that springtime is just around the corner more of the children (and moms too) will be healthy again.

Our topic for the day was Living together with God and how becoming a mom changes your relationship with God. Feel free to comment if you want to share anything that moved you during the discussion group time at your table.

I thought it would be fun to see how our MOPPETS would respond to the question:

What are you learning about God
and the
Bible?
So, I asked Kate to have a few of our workers write some responses down. We shared these at our meeting, but I didn't want anyone to miss them.

Aidan DeMartini said: "God loves the children"

Garrett Brooks said: "I learned that twins are the same age!"

Alatheia Anderson said: "God made the whole world and the sky! It's in the Bible."

Josiah Anderson said: "Only Daddy reads the Bible. When I'm a good reader I can read it, too!"

MOPS Meeting - February 12th @ 9:30 AM

Life on Planet Mom This Friday: Navigating Unsafe Relationships This week our MOPS curriculum is covering an important topic. While it may be that none of you in our group are in unsafe relationships, we don’t want to over look the possibility of a mom that is hurting in silence. This information is also beneficial to those looking to help others who are in unsafe relationships. God has given us a desire to be in relationships, but abusive or unsafe relationships can take many different forms, so it’s important to keep ourselves, our families and our friends safe.

We have
another service opportunity if you're interested. Some moms in our MOPS group are collecting baby clothes for some area teen moms. There is no teen MOPS anywhere in the area, so we're trying to reach out to them. If you're interested we have: ~one mom who needs 3-6 month boy clothes (& bigger), ~one mom who needs 6-9 month boy clothes (& bigger), ~and one mom who needs 2T to 3T boy clothes (3T for summer stuff). If you'd like to help, bring clothes to the next MOPS meeting (next Friday). We'll have a place for you to leave them.

Also, one of our MOPS moms Jill Graham is sharing about an important ministry she is involved in. From February 17 through March 28, our community will
be one of 212 cities in 45 states, 5 Canadian provinces, and Denmark joining together to host the largest and longest coordinated pro-life mobilization in history -- the 40 Days for Life campaign. 40 Days for Life is a focused pro-life effort that consists of:

*
40 days of prayer and fasting
* 40 days of peaceful vigil
* 40 days of community outreach

Stretching Your $$: How To Make It Go Farther

One of our MOPS moms saved around $175 in one trip shopping for groceries. Another MOPS mom regularly snagged items for less than $1. Another MOPS mom saved up to 90% on a single item during a grocery trip. What's the secret?

COUPONS!

Here are some common excuses people have for not couponing & the responses to those excuses:

"I don't have time. It just seems like a lot of work to save $0.75." - Clipping coupons does not take that much time. A single coupon insert can be gone through in under 5 minutes. Most grocery stores, like Giant Eagle, will double coupons that are $0.99 and less. Target accepts manufacturer coupons in addition to their own store coupons (you can use 2 coupons for one item). Spending 5 minutes once a week and then saving tens of dollars (at least) at the store is a good deal! The Grocery Game takes a lot of the work out of coupon clipping by matching up coupons with sale for you! You can even get a free trial. Cancelling is a no-hassle process.

"I only buy generic, so I don't have a need to clip coupons." - It's easy to purchase name brand items for pennies when using coupons. You can even come out cheaper than buying generic! The key is to use coupons when there are sales (watch your local ads) and you can sometime walk out of the store with FREE items.

"I don't get the Sunday paper." - You don't have to get the Sunday paper to start using coupons. Redplum is a coupon circular that is distributed in our mailboxes each week with the Giant Eagle sales ad. Occasionally Proctor & Gamble's Brandsaver is included in this, but not always. Smart Source is included in the Sunday paper. There are also numerous coupon sites where, if you have a home printer, you can print out coupons to use when shopping. Most stores accept Internet coupons just as they would a clipped coupon. Below you can find links to popular coupon sites:

If you do get the Sunday paper, or buy it every once in a while for the coupons you should check out The Sunday Coupon Preview. It is a website that lists all the coupons that will be in the Sunday paper from week-to-week, even alerting us as to when no coupons will be in the paper (this happens just a few times a year).

* These sites will list sale offers and then share the coupon you can use in order to get the best bargain. They mainly list the following stores: CVS, Giant Eagle, Target, Walgreens, Walmart. These sites even give you the links to Internet coupons and sometimes have links for FREE products and samples from major manufacturers!
